Most VR shooters are either one person’s show on the projector or a slow tactical round. Aim XR is the fast team version: arcade pace, a short match, and the group plays each other on the same Wi-Fi. Proto XR’s free Quest game has been on the store since 27 May 2021. The official site calls it 8v8. We have eight Quest 3s, so the point is your own LAN: you are the match, not strangers on a public server.
What is Aim XR?
A run-and-gun shooter on Meta Quest. The store page says you can play online, offline against bots, or host a LAN server on the same Wi-Fi. You can also play sitting down, with a height slider. When you move with the stick, tunnel vision turns on by default to soften the motion – you can switch it off in settings. Standing and room-scale are supported too. There is no mixed reality: the map is virtual, the room is your space to move.
- Free on the Meta Quest Store. Developer and publisher: Proto XR. Released 27 May 2021. The store rating sits around 4.2, from several thousand ratings.
- Online matches, offline bots, or LAN on the same Wi-Fi. Bot rounds and LAN start without an internet connection.
- Sitting with a height slider, standing, or room-scale. Stick movement turns on tunnel vision by default; the menu can turn it off.
- English menus. Store age rating PEGI 12 / Teen. Under 13 we pick a different title.
What does a round look like?
The arsenal is a classic FPS set: rifle, SMG, pistol, sniper, plus skins on the official site. Public server lists keep showing map names such as Frontier, Arena and SandBowl. The pace is short. itch.io lists a typical session at about half an hour – inside a booking that is one block, then there is still room for rhythm or sport.
- The store copy says 5v5. The official site advertises 8v8, and public servers fill up to 16 players.
- Eight headsets make 4v4 on your own LAN. Fewer people: bots fill the other side, or the rest watch on the projector.
- Maps on the server list include Frontier, Arena and SandBowl. A round ends quickly, then you swap or run it back.
- A typical session is about half an hour. In 90 minutes there is still time for Pistol Whip, Superhot or Beat Saber.
Who is this round for?
An FPS friend group, a birthday, a stag do, when you want the laser-tag feeling with maps and a score. Pavlov VR in the room is the tactical title, with two-handed gun handling. Aim XR is the shorter, more arcade round. If someone is prone to motion sickness, start with Beat Saber or Rec Room bowling, and taste Aim XR with one short match.
- A group of 4–8 who want to play against each other in one room.
- Anyone who plays FPS on PC or phone finds the aiming in a couple of minutes.
- Stick movement is a medium motion-sickness risk. Tunnel vision helps. Start with a short round.
- Beat Saber, Walkabout Mini Golf or Rec Room bowling afterwards, once the heart rate is already up.

In a 90-minute booking, Pistol Whip or Superhot can follow if someone wants a solo turn on the projector.
- 2–8 players, 8 headsets, one booking. Book 1–8 online.
- 13+. Under 13: Beat Saber, mini golf or bowling.
- Short matches, a block of about half an hour. The rest of the time is another title.
- Help on site in Hungarian. No homework: the first round shows the trigger and the movement.
Aim XR is about a group on one Wi-Fi, in two teams, deciding quickly who aims better. The map is virtual. The shouting in the room is real.
